Shanghai
Pictorial was founded in 1982 under the auspices
of the CPC Shanghai Committee. Today, Shanghai
Pictorial is a Chinese-English monthly magazine
featuring a variety of press photos on the city
of Shanghai.
Shanghai
Pictorial provides coverage mainly on the urban
development of Shanghai since the economic reform
and opening-up initiative in the 1980s; as a
result, the city construction and the casual
lifestyle of Shanghai are the focal point of
the magazine. In the over 20 years since its
founding, Shanghai Pictorial has presented this
biggest city in East China to the world in professional
photography. Some important figures in the Chinese
top leadership, including the former Chinese
president Jiang Zemin, have shown their kind
support for Shanghai Pictorial.
Since
2001, Shanghai Pictorial has significantly increased
its free distribution to the Chinese top leadership,
the government offices from the central to the
provincial levels, the administration offices
of Hong Kong and Macau SAR, and the foreign
consulates/delegation offices in Shanghai. Shanghai
Pictorial is also available on the flights and
airport waiting rooms of Shanghai Airlines and
the soft-seat compartments of important railway
lines.
